If we are to be denied everything precious we ought
Make dioramas with tweezers
Tie a kerchief
Let slugs roam the garden
Snooze the alarm
Kiss the scraped elbow
Marinate the salmon a little longer. A little more garlic.
Clink our glasses
Step lightly, unless clogging of course.
Chew on good stories
Watch to crocus patches when we wield the wheelbarrow
Notice who is growing through the sidewalk cracks
Sit and stare, and stare, and stare
Always, always have breakfast
Be liberal with our bubble wrap
Write the note
Gather the flowers
Mend the holes
Boop the noses
Flavor the beans
Warm by the fire
Garnish the eggs with extra pazzaz
Compliment the Robin on their song, and learn another birds’.
Embroider the rattle snake
Poach the egg
Chop the hair
Keep your hood on during boring meetings
Hang the bells and the whistles
Take the stained glass class and put the dog in a basket
Swim during lunch
Whittle a spoon
Let us remember that if we are to be denied all things precious, we will be precious ourselves. Broken glass can’t be put back together. Not all glass will be broken, though.
I promise.
