Our Ancestors want us to be Hawthorn because of the way Hawthorn protects its tenderness with spikes.
They want us to be Hawthorn because Hawthorn is a medicine of ease, of matters of the heart.
In many traditions, Hawthorn stands at the threshold of the other world, just as we now stand at a threshold, tasked with building ourselves a new, liberated place to live. Hawthorn shepherds across death and rebirth, and so too must we.
This plant is stabilizing and knows abundance amongst thorns. Hawthorn supports our skin – our barrier against the harshness of the world, keeping the softness in.
If nothing else, our Ancestors want us to be Hawthorn because it has been said that witches make their brooms from Hawthorn branches.
