Sometimes, mirrors are for practicing breakups, comebacks, and one-liners.
As children, we walked and fell. Walked and fell. Wobbled and stayed upright.
The first season on the land was for missteps. The second was for watching. The third was for letting the land have more say.
We practice brushing our teeth everyday by practicing brushing our teeth.
Interactions with our 8th grade crush were practice for our 45th Anniversary Party planned by the grandchildren.
Our spice and failure tolerance strengthen through practice.
In this way, we can rehearse new worlds.
Abundance is a practice. Reconciliation is a practice. So, too, is bearing witness to the truth.
We won’t know when we’ve arrived at the world we desire unless we’ve practiced it.
Any other summer theater dork will tell you this too: some rehearsals are too long and the lights too bright. The tap shoes hurt and voices get strained.
Yet, we keep rehearsing because the calluses will form. The Ricolas will be delivered. Our eyes will adjust to the lights.
Then, we will bring this thing we rehearsed to the stage and say “see, this was our plan. This is what is possible. We know because we’ve practiced and couldn’t forget our roles if we tried.”
Some of the practice will be confronting and some will be whimsical.
We must rehearse new worlds before we arrive to them.
